Sarah Palin: Our Little Miss Sunshine

As all who saw the film know, there is nothing wrong with Miss Sunshine except she can't dance. Her dancing is so bad that even her family does not want her to stage it.  When she insists, they all get on the stage with her to conceal how really bad she is.    Similarly, there is nothing wrong with Ms. Palin (although some may debate this statement vigorously), except she can't be VEEP. Even her family knows that.  But, she, like Miss Sunshine is totally unaware of it.  She will never understand everyone's grateful cheers at her defeat.   So, on to defeat, smooth sailing, pretty miss.

I'm not sure I see the analogy. Are all the people getting on the stage with Palin to distract from her?

I do see an analogy (I am not the first) with Anita Bryant of the Sunshine State. Someone described them as a new archetype, "the sexy Puritan", with Britney Spears (when she was a provocative virgin) being the failed case. So social conservatives can have their rigid ideology (cake) and imagine screwing it (I don't think they do much "eating" if you know what I mean), too.

I am very frustrated by the empty allure of beauty. The eye is drawn to Sarah. The beauty sucks you in. Why should it be otherwise? Beauty is beautiful. It takes a bit of discipline to get the rational mind to step in and say whoa. Good thing Katie is a looker too. And smart. Go Katie!

She just doesn't have what it tkaes to be President as Little Miss Sunshine does not have what it ntakes to be Little Miss Sunshine.
